Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot go into a grocery store and not peruse the spice section.
This is especially true of specialty and ethnic markets. So, I was delighted to find Chilli and Lemongrass Mix Salt at my local Asian grocer, Bamboo Asian Market, in Wichita Falls, Asian Bamboo Market.
This is a product of Vietnam, and is a simple blend of spices.
The name on the label says it all; powdered chile, ground lemongrass and salt. There is one other ingredient that I usually skip when choosing any product. And that is MSG. I made an exception here and am glad of it when the time comes to reach for this seasoning blend at home.
Sometimes I get tired of plain salt and pepper for my morning eggs.
And, I can also grow weary of my favorite home-blended seasonings for a morning scramble. For an Asian kick, I sprinkle on Chilli and Lemongrass Mix Salt.
It is also great on potatoes and rice, as well as any vegetable.
Recently, I have started using it on a variety of meats. A generous dusting turns a hamburger patty into a Vietnamese treat along with a splash of soy or fish sauce. Season skinless chicken breasts, then sear in a hot skillet before turning down the heat after the addition of some white wine or broth. Cover and cook until done. A wonderful sauce can be made with the pan juices and cream with the addition of a little more Chilli and Lemongrass Mix Salt.
Chilli and Lemongrass Mix Salt could prove to be a challenge to locate where you live.
But, it is worth the search. I couldn’t find a U. S. retail source online. So, I want to encourage you to seek out at your local Asian or international market. Some major supermarket chains have an international aisle where I have found some interesting items in the past.
